Japanese Music

Today I've got some music that I want to show you. Not my own, mind you. I just browsed though some Japanese songs at YouTube and encountered some interesting ones I want to share here.

Threatening title, isn't it? But what is this? A kind of gothic and children's dreams crossover? The music is heavy but still clearly pop and pretty catchy, and the video is somewhat funny. Plus, the singer's English is pretty good, which is something that definitely not all Japanese singers can boast about. If you can make out English sections in Japanese lyrics by just listening, then that's a good sign. But really, who cares if a singer's English is good if he's singing a nice song? This one has both.

This has to be the biggest surprise today. This quiet little song really got my attention and has been running on rotation since. A very inspiring piece of music. Listen to the "percussion", the idea is clever and the result impressive. Also, the video has a very interesting style with lots of creativity in it and it's not the usual stage with lights and musicians. It's just fun to watch. Plus, you don't really get the idea at the beginning, but the surprise when you finally do really makes you laugh out.

Good old Glay return with a new single called G4 featuring four new songs, this one being the lead single. This song is pretty much everything that makes up Glay. Whether that's good or bad is up to you. The singing, as often with Glay, sounds a bit like a cheap pop song. The guitars are nice in this song (and it seems to be the only heavier song on the single) and it has the familiar nice interaction between the guitarists. Plus, Takuro's solo (the first one of the two) is somewhat cool. And as with every Glay song, even when you think it's mediocre at first, it eventually catches you and you end up whistling it's tune all day.

To me, checking out Japanese music is always dangerous, as it can cost a lot of money. Japanese CD's are hard to get over here, apart from the bigger bands like Glay that you might encounter at Amazon or Ebay. Up to now, I only ordered CD's from Japan once, but that order completely ruined me. Currently, I am still looking for the FLCL soundtrack. I actually saw it at Ebay, for 30 EUR. What an expensive fad this is.

Oh yeah, before I forget this. The two photos were taken a few days ago at sunset. The first time I touched the camera since two months or so.
